Abstract

Background: The consumption of sugar-sweetened beverages among adolescents has increased in recent years. Data from the Indonesia Health Research (2023) showed that 57.6% of Indonesian adolescents consumed modern tea-based beverages more than five times per week, while 23.4% consumed them daily. One beverage that has become increasingly popular is matcha, which is often served with high amounts of added sugar. This study aimed to determine the relationship between the implementation of school nutrition education policies and matcha beverage consumption behavior among students of SMK Negeri 1 Warungasem in 2026. Methods: This study employed a descriptive analytic design with a cross-sectional approach. The study population consisted of 1,274 students. A total of 93 respondents were selected using proportional random sampling. Data were collected using a questionnaire. Data analysis included univariate and bivariate analyses using the Spearman Rank correlation test. Results: Most respondents perceived the implementation of school nutrition education policies as good (50.5%). Regarding matcha beverage consumption behavior, 50.5% of respondents were categorized as having unhealthy consumption behavior. The bivariate analysis showed a p-value of 0.017 and a correlation coefficient (r) of 0.247. Conclusion: There was a statistically significant relationship between the implementation of school nutrition education policies and matcha beverage consumption behavior among students of SMK Negeri 1 Warungasem in 2026. Recommendation: The school is advised to optimize the nutrition education program from the Puskesmas (Community Health Center) by conducting it routinely once a week using interactive digital media, as well as to implement strict management and standardization of food facilities by limiting the sale of high-fat foods and sugary drinks at Canteen 2 to align with the principles of the Primary Healthy Canteen.
