Abstract

Background: Hypertension is a serious health problem among older adults caused by age-related decline in cardiovascular function. The World Health Organization (WHO) reports that more than 1.28 billion people worldwide aged 30–79 years have hypertension. According to the 2023 Indonesian Health Survey (SKI), the prevalence of hypertension among adults aged ≥18 years is approximately 34.11%. This study aimed to determine the effect of avocado leaf decoction on reducing blood pressure among older adults with hypertension in Ciherang Village in 2026. Methods: This study employed a quasi-experimental design with a one-group pretest–posttest design. The study population consisted of 90 older adults with hypertension, and 16 respondents were selected using purposive sampling. Blood pressure was measured using a digital sphygmomanometer before and after the intervention. Data were analyzed using the Wilcoxon Signed Rank Test. Results: The mean systolic blood pressure was 150.63 mmHg before the intervention and 134.38 mmHg after the intervention, while the mean diastolic blood pressure was 101.25 mmHg before the intervention and 88.75 mmHg after the intervention. The Wilcoxon Signed-Rank Test yielded a p-value of 0.000 (<0.05). Conclusion: Avocado leaf decoction had a significant effect on reducing both systolic and diastolic blood pressure among older adults with hypertension in Ciherang Village in 2026. Recommendation: Ciherang Village is expected to utilize the findings of this study as input for developing Posbindu PTM activities, particularly in efforts to control hypertension among older adults.
