Abstract
Background: Stress is a common mental health problem among university students. In Indonesia, 41.3% of students experience moderate to severe stress, particularly those in health-related programs. A preliminary study conducted at Universitas Bhakti Husada Indonesia found that 8 out of 10 students experienced inadequate family communication and family support accompanied by academic demands. This study aimed to determine the relationship between family communication, family support, and stress levels among first-year students of the Faculty of Health Sciences, Campus I, Universitas Bhakti Husada Indonesia in 2026. Methods: This quantitative study employed an analytical survey with a crosssectional design. Of 180 students, 10 participated in the preliminary study, while 170 respondents were selected using total sampling. Data were collected using questionnaires and analyzed using frequency distribution and the Spearman Rank test. Results: The univariate analysis showed that 123 respondents (72.4%) had dysfunctional family communication, 95 respondents (55.9%) had low family support, and 43 respondents (25.3%) experienced extremely severe stress. The bivariate analysis revealed a significant relationship between family communication and stress levels (p = 0.023), as well as between family support and stress levels (p = 0.000). Conclusion: There was a significant relationship between family communication, family support, and stress levels among first-year students of the Faculty of Health Sciences, Campus I, Universitas Bhakti Husada Indonesia in 2026. Recommendation: Students are encouraged to maintain open communication with their families and utilize family support as a strategy for managing stress
