Abstract

Introduction: Mental disorders constitute a significant public health concern that affects not only individuals living with the condition but also their families, who often assume the role of primary caregivers. Providing long-term care for family members with mental disorders may impose substantial caregiving burdens and contribute to increased levels of stress among family caregivers. This study aimed to examine the relationship between family burden and family support and family stress levels in caring for patients with mental disorders in Darma Village in 2026. Methods: This study employed a quantitative research design using a crosssectional approach. A total of 42 respondents were recruited through total sampling. Data were collected using the Zarit Burden Interview (ZBI), the Multidimensional Scale of Perceived Social Support (MSPSS), and the Depression Anxiety Stress Scale-21 (DASS-21). Data were analyzed using the Chi-Square test. Results: The majority of respondents experienced a moderate level of family burden (38.1%), a high level of family support (42.9%), and a moderate level of family stress (42.9%). The results of the Chi-Square test revealed a statistically significant relationship between family burden and family stress levels (p-value = 0.000). Likewise, a statistically significant relationship was found between family support and family stress levels (p-value = 0.000). Conclusion: There is a significant relationship between family burden and family support and family stress levels among families caring for patients with mental disorders. The findings of this study are expected to serve as evidence for healthcare professionals in strengthening family-centered support and assistance for caregivers of patients with mental disorders.
